As a result, you'll see more major app version updates **which require manual approval**. On Forge, Atlassian decides which updates install automatically: * **Minor versions** (for example, 6.0 to 6.1) install automatically on every site. * **Major versions** (for example, 5.x to 6.0) require a site administrator to approve the update, because they change the app's permissions: for example, its scopes, the external addresses it contacts, or the content its screens may load. Until an administrator updates, the site stays on its current major version. To update to a new major version, follow the steps below. Atlassian shows the changed permissions on the app details screen before you confirm. 1. On your Jira site, open the **Apps context menu (⋯) > Manage apps** in the left-hand navigation. A message will appear saying, "App management has moved to Administration." Click **Take me there**. This opens the **Connected apps** list for your site. 2. Find **Intercom for Jira** in the list. It will have an **UPDATE** status next to its name. 3. Click **View app details** in the actions column. 4. Select **Update** in the top-right corner of the app details screen to update the app to the latest version. ## 6.x Version 6.0.0 moves the app's features and your Intercom connection data from ToolsPlus infrastructure to Atlassian-hosted Forge infrastructure, narrows permissions, and makes them explicit and visible to administrators. #### New and changed permissions Version 6.0.0 requests no new scopes. Its permission changes concern the external addresses the app contacts and loads content from: * **Intercom API** in each Intercom region (US, EU, Australia), called from Forge to read conversations and post notes. * **Intercom asset and attachment domains**, to show avatars and images and to open attachments and conversations in Intercom. * **Sentry** (error and performance monitoring), declared as analytics that contains no end-user data. Version 6.0.0 removes the permission to open any address from the app's screens. Links to Intercom and ToolsPlus open directly; Jira asks you to confirm any other link before it opens. #### Other changes * **Linking and unlinking conversations on the work item view** requires the **Edit work items** permission on the work item. Users who can only view the work item still see its linked conversations, but they can't perform the **Link** or **Unlink** actions. See [uninstall and reinstall behavior](/atlassian-cloud/intercom-for-jira/forge-migration.md#new-uninstall-and-reinstall-behavior). * **Connecting a Jira space to Intercom** opens a new tab instead of a pop-up. The tab shows the Jira site and space you are connecting before taking you to Intercom, then closes when the connection is complete. ## 5.x Identical to 3.x. Version 5 was released to correct the accidental release of version 4. ## 4.x Released by mistake on 31 July 2026 and replaced the same day by version 5. If your site shows version 4, update to 6.x. ## 3.x Version 3.0.0 moved the app onto the Forge platform. The app kept running on ToolsPlus infrastructure, which Forge calls a "remote", and Intercom connections stayed in ToolsPlus-hosted storage. * Introduced the Forge scopes that replace the two Connect scopes. * Changed the uninstall and reinstall behavior. * Forwarded Jira comments keep their formatting more accurately in Intercom notes. * Workflow post functions work in team-managed spaces. ## Questions If you have any questions about a version, please contact us via your preferred channel at .
